The ZRX1200R a replica of the bike
Eddie Lawson won AMA Superbike racing in the early 80s. In the
1982-83 Kawasaki did the same thing and made a Eddie Lawson replica,
(picture below) the Z1000R and later Z1100R, both called ERL (Eddie
Lawson Replica). In 1997 Kawasaki made a replica of the ERL the
ZRX1100R. The ZRX1200 is basically a bored and stroked ZRX1100 with a
lot more power than both the old Z1000 and the ZRX1100. |

Engine details |

|
|
|
The engine is based on the ZZR1100
engine, bored and stroked to 1164ccm3. Its tuned for low and midrange
power, still at 122 hp a lot stronger than its counterparts. It
may look dated but its a modern bike with
electroplated
aluminium cylinders for quick heat transfer, allowing closer
tolerances for more power,
36mm carburettors with
K-TRIC,
microprocessor controlled timing, never needs adjustment. On the
handling side it have a bridged aluminium swingarm with a eccentric
chain adjusters, 43mm fully adjustable Cartridge-Type Front Fork (more
advanced than the one on the ZZR1100), 310mm Dual-Disc Front Brakes with
opposed, six-piston callipers (in some markets) for
well-modulated, confidence-inspiring stopping power. And not to forget,
its a really good looking machine. |

You may have noticed from the pictures,
there are two different versions. The one for the Japanese home market
and the export model for the rest of the world. Look at the two pictures
at left. The Japanese one have a different graphics layout then the
export model. and it have 6-piston callipers up front against the
4-piston callipers on the export model. Same update as the now gone ZX9R
had in 2002. And the Japanese version have a all "chrome" exhaust
system. But the biggest difference are in power output, the export
model pumps out 122 hp against the restricted Japanese version with its
95 hp.
For 2004 both got new colours and
graphics (or change of colours) and a new slightly bigger stainless
steel exhaust pipe. The Japanese version also gained a full scale
speedometer. You can compare the 2003 and 2004 model in the pictures
below. |

ZRX1200R-ARK and
ZRX400-ARK |
Limited
model |
|
|
|
|
|
|
For 2004 Kawasaki made a limited
model of the ZRX1200R and the ZRX400. All were probably sold out
very fast sins there were only 200 of the ZRX1200R-ARK and 100 of
the ZRX400. The biggest difference are the new Titanium silencer
made by
BEET, (looks very good on the bike indeed). You can only have it
in lime green and the graphics are different from the ordinary ZRX.
Specifications are the same as for the original model. |
